The HRV boys water polo team (6-2) rebounded from a rough loss to Parkrose last week with an 18-7 win over Centennial. “Hood River came out fired up with probably their best coordinated offense this season. Plenty of motion through driving and setting picks, good ball movement, creating solid, open shots on goal,” said HRV Head Coach David Robinson. “The fact that we had 16 assists on 20 goals points out the excellent team execution and hitting the open man. Centennial was overmatched from the beginning, so it was an opportunity to practice playing smarter, involving the whole team in our new offense, and also allowing a number of younger players to get some quality varsity time.” Boys leaders were Bryce Donald with five goals; Chad Klaas with four goals, three assists, three steals, and two field blocks; Liam Longland coming out of the cage as a field player to score two goals and an assist; and single goals from JJ Mears, Pen Paphanchi, Cole Rothman, Corbett Blackman, Jed Little, Leo Kissinger, and Will Sumerfield. Mears and Conner McElwee had three assists each and McElwee added two steals. Goalies Longland and Cael Price had two steals each. The girls and boys host David Douglas and Hillboro on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, with competition starting at 5:30 p.m.
