Concert fundraiser to help send teen on mission

Amy White, 19, Hood River Valley High class of 2015, is leaving Sept. 28 for a mission trip with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) — and is raising funds for airfare, housing, food and lectures with a benefit concert Saturday, Sept. 10 at River of Life Assembly of God, 979 Tucker Rd., Hood River.

The musical event will include performances by White, Andy Pine, Amy Griffin, Brooke Catlett, Paige Kapelski, and Madison Stevens in a variety of genres, including Christian, country, pop and Disney songs. The show starts at 7 p.m. and will be “very family friendly,” said White.

Suggested donation at the door is $5.

White expects the six-month mission to cost about $11,000 and needs to raise another $4,000.

“My lecture phase is in Kona for the first three months, and then I’m hoping to go to Africa for my outreach phase,” said White. “I will be going to classes and really getting pumped on God’s word along with hundreds of others around my age. I will then be sent wherever God and my leaders see I’m most needed for the next three months.

“I’m studying music while I’m there, and I’m hoping to work with kids,” she said. Her mission will end March 12.
