Party like it’s 1564 at the Hood River County Library’s fourth annual Shakespeare Week. This celebration was created to give kids and their families fun, exciting experiences with the world’s most famous playwright.
Schedule is as follows:
April 23 — Knight’s Quest, noon-2 p.m. Calling all lads and lasses! The queen needs you for an important quest. Assemble your party (friends and family) and prepare for an afternoon of adventure at the library. Celebrate your knighthood with prizes, cookies and a tankard of root beer. (Arrive anytime between noon and 1:30 p.m.)
April 23 — Much Ado About Nothing and Birthday Party, 4 p.m. Celebrate the Bard’s birthday with this classic tale of perennial bachelors, dastardly knaves, wooing gone wrong and love made right again. Performed by Portland’s Original Practice Shakespeare Festival. Birthday cake served after the play.
April 25 — Masquerade Mask Making, 3-5 p.m. Celebrate Shakespeare Week with your own fancy masquerade mask. All supplies provided.
April 26 — Put on a play, 6 p.m. Bring friends and family (or just yourself) to create a short skit to perform. Costumes and props are provided and acting basics will be covered. All ages are encouraged and no experience is necessary. Drawing for a prize!
April 27 — Matinée Movie and Wax Seal Craft, 4 p.m. Enjoy a short animation of “Twelfth Night,” then write a letter and seal it with real wax. Drawing for a prize!
April 29 — Swordplay Workshop, noon-1 p.m. Shakespeare’s stories are famous for their sword duels. Come learn the basics and die in style in a scene from Macbeth! Ages 7 and up only, please. Drawing for a prize!
