Entertainment Update for April 26

‘Shakespearean Insults’ for teens

Let’s be insulting! Enjoy some Mad Libs-esque rewrites and join us as we trade some Bard worthy insults and take a fill-in-the-blanks approach to speeches and scenes from some of the most famous plays around. Snacks and maybe even a prize or two for being properly insulting.

This program is free and open to the public and aimed toward teens and tweens on Saturday April 29, at 2 p.m. at the Hood River County Library.

‘Madame Butterfly’ screened April 30

Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" is not only one of the world's most popular operas, but contains some of opera's most emotional and ravishing musical scores. Premiered in 1904, "Butterfly" went on to inspire countless other works of music, literature, and theater, including the hit musical "Miss Saigon." Tickets are $10, free for seniors and students. (This show is rescheduled from April 16.) Enjoy the San Francisco Opera’s version presented on Blu-ray equipment, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Wy’east Performing Arts Center.

Banff Film Festival April 28-30

The Banff Film Festival and the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival returns with award winning adventure, culture and adrenalin films on April 28, 29 and 30. Get ready to honor that tradition — sit back and be amazed at films from all over the world bringing a slice of adventure for everyone. Tickets on sale now at Andrew’s Pizza and the Skylight Theater. Kay Floria at the White Buffalo

Kay Floria plays at the White Buffalo on Thursday, April 27 at 6 p.m. Floria is a notable keyboard player and vocalist who performs blues, jazz and ballads reminiscent of ‘40s and ‘50s female blues artists. White Buffalo Wine Bar & Bistro, 4040 Westcliff Drive, Hood River.

Sam Magill at Lyle Hotel

Veteran folk-rocker Sam Magill and his ukulele playing nephew, Cody, will be appearing at The Lyle Hotel on Friday, April 28. Showtime is 7-9 p.m. Don't miss the high energy, heart warming, foot stomping sounds of Washington's newest sons. Sam has recently released his ninth album and will be performing songs from throughout his career as well as an eclectic mix of covers. For a closer look, check out www.smagill.com. Hood River Inn 50th Anniversary

The Hood River Inn 50th Anniversary event takes place on Saturday, April 29 with a “Flashback to the ‘60s” party in the Gorge Room featuring the Portland area’s legendary cover band, Hit Machine. In addition to dancing to hits from all eras since the 1960s, guests can enjoy classic cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the former Gorge Club nightclub. Period clothing is encouraged.

Flashback to the ‘60s starts at 8 p.m. and ends at midnight at the Gorge Room at the Best Western Plus Hood River Inn. There is no cover charge, and the show is for adults 21 and over only.
