Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Columbia Gorge hosted its annual pool party on Sunday, April 23 at the Hood River Aquatic Center. About 25 Bigs and Littles from Hood River, Klickitat, and Wasco counties attended the event, where they swung from the rope swing, swam in the pools, and played water basketball. Little Sister Laila and her Big Sister Jeri (pictured above) spent their rainy Sunday afternoon bonding and laughing while splashing around the pool. Little Laila had a big smile on her face throughout the whole event. The two have been matched for a year. Big Brothers Big Sisters, a program of The Next Door, provides children ages 6 to 14 with one-to-one mentoring relationships with adult volunteers. Hood River and Klickitat Counties have seven girls and nine boys eagerly waiting for their Bigs. To become a volunteer mentor, contact Emily in Hood River and Klickitat Counties at 541-490-9979 or Kateel Muhs in Wasco County at 541-399-0259.
