75th Anniversary of Roy Websters Cross-Channel Swim Sept. 4
The Roy Webster Cross-Channel Swim is Columbia River’s biggest and oldest official swim event. The event sees more than 500 people each year come out to participate. The event begins at the Hood River Port at 5:30 a.m. with registration. To participate you must be 10 years or older and swimmers under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult.
After those who have registered sign in, participants will then be transferred over to the Washington shore around 7 a.m. When the 1.1-mile swim across the river begins, swimmers will be let into the water in waves.
Along their journey across the river, sailboats, kayaks, and paddleboarders are there to guide a swim lane and protect swimmers as they cross the channel.
The event ends with a gathering of the participants, family, friends and spectators at the beach east of the Best Western Plus Hood River Inn until 10:30 a.m. A 75th anniversary celebration breakfast is being held from 8:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m in the Gorge Room at the Hood River Inn, with a no-host buffet.
