The HRV varsity and girls wrestling teams once again ran into weather issues last weekend, but were able to get a few matches in on Friday, before ducking out of the I-5 corridor and back into the Gorge ahead of Saturday’s storm, cutting short both competitions they were attending.
The girls competed in the first day of a massive 67-team tournament in Kelso, Wash., and placed 40th despite not returning for the second day of matches.
The varsity squad made the most of Friday’s competition at Cleveland High School in Portland, placing six on the podium and finishing eighth of 16 teams. Highlights included the first-place finishes by Chad Muenzer, Jason Shaner, and Justin Wilson in the 113-pound, 132-pound, and 285-pound classes.
The varsity team was scheduled to wrestle at Stevenson Tuesday evening, but that match was canceled because of the weather. The teams will then compete in a series of matches in the Bend area Thursday through Saturday.
