MEN IN GREEN team celebrates its victory at the FTC Regionals in Portland Sunday.

Three Hood River Valley High School teams advanced to the next stage in First Technology Challenge (FTC) Robotics competition next month.

Men In Green claimed first place at the Regional Qualifier at Benson Tech in Portland Saturday and Sunday. Along with Steelheads and Fig Neutrons, they earned the right to FTC Super Regionals in Tacoma March 10-11.

To get there, the teams are seeking help from the community. Check each team’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, or make donations via Hood River Valley High School, in care of the Robotics program. Each team needs to raise $3,500, according to Olivia Acosta of Men in Green.

Men In Green also set a new FTC Regionals record for most points scored. Steelhead won the Inspire Award for its overall outreach, engineering, and presentation, and Fig Neutrons advanced by placing along with Alliance champions Men in Green in the multi-team Alliance competition.

Men In Green members are Acosta, Luke Serra, Ruben Gonzaga, Michael McAllister, Parker Romero, Nathan Olson, Joey Slover, Emmett Becker, and Quincy Zuck. Steelhead teammates are Elizabeth Bailey, Matthew Frost, Troy Hewitt, Barrett Ihde, Chad Klaas, Alec Matthews, Melissa Nardone, Emma Ouzounian, Leia Paul, Claire Powell, and Margaret Totten.
