The HRV boys and girls wrestling team headed into this week’s dual meet versus The Dalles/Dufur with a lot of momentum as both teams were coming off one of their best performances of the season last weekend.

The boys had traveled to Rex Putnam Jan. 26 and finished in first place as a team at the Joe Stewart Invitational.

The girls were in Springfield at the Thurston State Qualifier where, as a team, they finished third. They also had three athletes punch their tickets to the OSAA Wrestling State Championships on Saturday, Feb. 17 with their individual performances at the qualifier.

And in the final dual meet of the season for HRV and The Dalles/Dufur, the Riverhawks would be no match as the Eagles continued their strong team wrestling on Jan. 31.

The Eagles beat The Dalles/Dufur by a final team score of 60-15, earning the River Clash Cup for another year.

HRV came out of The Dalles with 10 victories, including four pin finishes.

Jason Shaner ended his undefeated regular season with a pin finish to earn the Eagles “Pin Chain,” but he would only wear that chain around his neck for a short period of time on Wednesday night as HRV wrestlers Chad Muenzer, Tristian Keely and Clayton Morris also earned the “Pin Chain” with their pin finishes.

The other six winners included Justine Lane, Sam Munce, Ryan Zeller, Blake Willis, Logan Jensen and Adrian Ramirez.

Upcoming meets:

HRV wrestling will have this weekend off from competition and will instead be in preparation mode as next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, the team will be in Redmond for the Regionals tournament.

After the Regionals tournament, those HRV wrestlers who have qualified will travel to the Portland Memorial Coliseum on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17 for the OSAA Wrestling State Championships.
