Kegler's Corner: Ciena Brittle Rolls 715

Hood River bowling has a new star in town and her name is Ciena Brittle! The youngster, who is just a few years out of high school, became only the fourth woman in the history of local league bowling to roll a competitive scratch three game series over 700. Folks, that’s a lofty milestone, as many bowlers never attain a 600 series!

In last Wednesday’s top flite Fraternal league at Orchard Lanes, Ciena scattered the sticks to the tune of a beautiful scratch 715 series on games of 267, 236 and 212. Ciena starred on the award-winning girls bowling team at HRVHS, so it comes as no big surprise to see her in the limelight once again. To say the least, she is extremely talented at this great game.

Ciena has a wonderful approach of smooth, balanced footwork that coordinates beautifully with a flawless armswing and release. She projects the ball seamlessly over the foul line down and in toward her target, and it hooks powerfully into the 1-3 pocket, over and over again, producing strike after strike. You just can’t draw it up any better!

And, by the way, it’s not as easy as Ciena makes it look. That’s how good she is.

It’s wonderful to see women and youngsters getting involved in bowling — just look at the resurgence of the ladies pro bowling tour, where a woman just won a PBA tournament a few weeks ago, beating the best male bowlers on the planet, proving once again that this is a game for everybody!

We’ve got some mighty fine bowlers right here in Hood River and now you can add Ciena Brittle’s name to that list.

We had a bunch of good scores last week. Of course, Ciena topped everybody in league action, beating her average by a whopping 154 pins.

Tootie Seaman rose to the top of the Wednesday afternoon senior Colts and Fillies league as she beat her average by 112 sticks.

And our resurgent super star, Bill Pullum, had that hook monster of his on target once again as he finished his session in the Fraternal 100 pins over his average. Nice shooting everybody!
