Marshall Bailey, 17, a senior at Hood River Valley High School, has completed his Eagle Scout project.

Last spring, Bailey approached the Hutson Museum at the same time museum volunteer Marie Pickering had proposed installing a Little Library on museum grounds. Bailey’s project included bringing in a team of younger scouts to install a bike rack as well as to refinish the weathered benches located outside of the museum.

As plans moved forward, the installation of a Little Library was added to the project. Bailey finished the entire project Aug. 31.

“The boys, with their advisers, went to work and the creation of a community gather place in front of the Hutson Museum was accomplished,” said a museum press release. “Thank you, Marshall, for your dedication to your Eagle Scout project and for including the Hutson Museum.”

The Little Library placed outside the museum was created through an Art Place America grant to the Libraries of Eastern Oregon, museum members said. Local artist Rod Stuart built the library boxes for Arts in Education of the Gorge, which were then painted by Hood River Valley High School students.

There are 18 Little Libraries placed throughout the county.
