Hood River County School District is down 11 students compared to last year’s enrollment numbers, said Catherine Dalbey, Human Resources Department director.
This year, HRCSD has an enrollment of 4,087 district-wide. Enrollment is monitored daily during the first two weeks of school and in the days leading up to the first day of school; weekly check-ins happen thereafter with building principals with unanticipated class sizes, she said.
“The elementary schools are down 12 students, the middle schools are up 3 students, and the high school is down 14,” she said. There are also some variances with special programs.
“State School Fund money to our district is dependent on our enrollment,” she said. “… Budget planning is based on enrollment projections.”
School totals are as follows after the first week of classes: Cascade Locks, 67; May Street Elementary, 421; Mid Valley Elementary, 505; Parkdale Elementary, 206; Westside Elementary, 537; Hood River Middle School, 571; Wy’east Middle School, 407; Hood River Valley High School, 1,258; Hood River Options Academy (online), 91; and Hood River Options Academy (alternative school), 25.
Across all schools, grade sizes are: Kindergarten, 270; first grade, 293; second grade, 290; third grade, 290; fourth grade, 280; fifth grade, 312; sixth grade, 327; seventh grade, 337; eighth grade, 317; ninth grade, 331; tenth grade, 321; eleventh grade, 329; and twelfth grade, 391.
