Sheriff's office advises some Hood River county residents to prepare for possible evacuation for Government Complex Fire
The Hood River County Sheriff's Office is advising residents on Fir Mountain Rd east of the irrigation ditch, Fir Mountain Loop and Swyers Dr of a level 1 pre-evacuation notice due to the Government Complex Fire.
Sebastian Kinasiewicz apparently fell 2,000 feet to his death
An air and ground search resumed Tuesday morning for a Polish man, Sebastian Kinasiewicz, in the Tilly Jane area on the north side of Mount Hood, and an Oregon Army Blackhawk helicopter crew spotted Kinasiewica's body at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. He apparently fell aabout 2,000 feet, to the 9,100 feet level on the north face of the mountain, in a place known as Climber's Left Chute, according to Sgt. Petet Hughes of the Hood River County Sheriff's Department.
City Manager Bob Francis resigned Monday night, referring to unspecified “difficulty” with Mayor Arthur Babitz and members of the city council, all of whom said they were surprised by the announcement, which came near the end of the regular City Council meeting. Francis cited a June 7 meeting with council member Laurent Picard in which Picard recommended strongly that Francis look for other work and resign. Francis used his standing report segment of Monday's meeting to announce he will resign effective July 8.

Port of Cascade Locks General Manager Chuck Daughtry is resigning from his position effective Dec. 31. “It’s time, I’ve been there 12 years…I think it’s time, Daughtry said. ""I just got that feeling. They need to hear some fresh voices and I needed to recharge my batteries."
A boil water advisory for residents in the Oak Grove area may last for several weeks, according to the Hood River County Environmental Health Department.
