Pet of the Week: Sweet Rupert offers plenty of snuggles

Rupert has been selected by volunteers as Adopt A Dog’s adoptable pet of the week. Sweet, sweet Rupert. He's about a year old, 26 pounds, and they think Boston Terrier/Pit bull mix. He's got super long feet, and those back legs have a happy, peppy step as he bounces along!

‘Blind Princess’ auditions Feb. 5

Auditions for a spring production of The Blind Princess will be held on Monday, Feb. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Columbia Center for the Arts (CCA), 215 Cascade in Hood River. Additional auditions will be scheduled in other locations (dates and times TBA) and callbacks will take place at CCA on Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 6-8 p.m.

Register now for steelhead, chinook fishing clinic

Local fisherman Greg Short and the Hood River Watershed Group are hosting their annual Steelhead and Spring Chinook Fishing one-day clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. HRV prepares for weekend’s robotics competition

Students packed Hood River Valley High School engineering/math teacher Jeff Blackman’s robotics classroom Wednesday after school in preparation for this Saturday’s First Tech Challenge (FTC) league qualifier competition. Winners will advance to super qualifiers, to be held at a later date.

Hood River’s only full-size indoor glow in the dark mini golf course will open its doors for one more weekend before closing until November, Friday, Jan. 26 from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 27 from 2-8 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ninth and State streets.

Yesteryears: Ruptured natural gas line closes downtown in 1998

A ruptured natural gas line had a block of downtown Hood River cleared out Monday morning. Workers laboring on the Oak Avenue urban renewal project inadvertently jarred the line while digging up asphalt between Second and Third streets. The break occurred in front of Yaya’s restaurant.
