‘Emerging Artists’ is Sept. show at CCA

Columbia Center for the Arts will showcase Emerging Artists in its upcoming show in the Columbia Arts Gallery from Aug. 31 through Oct. 2. An emerging artist is someone who’s in the early stage of their career, someone who hasn’t yet established a solid reputation as an artist among art critics, art buyers, and art galleries, who is new to the world of professional art exhibitions, recently out of school and embarking on an art career, or studio artists of any age new to the creative process. Work from emerging artists can be raw and rough or refined and sophisticated. It can follow well-traveled traditions or embark on new paths. Emerging artists are in the process of gaining momentum with the expression of their art, and may be at a critical juncture in their career where they are taking more risks and pushing their work in dynamic ways. This Emerging Artists exhibition is being juried by Laurie Balmuth, a Hood River painter and multimedia artist who has shown work nationally and internationally. In the lobby gallery, local artist Sue Krigsberg will be showing a retrospective of her creative work over the past few decades — highlighting the journey of an artist as their style continues to emerge. Participating Artists Mary Andrews, Casey Caruso, Carmen Chan, Nate Chavez, Steven Christian, Maya de Ceano-Vivas, Chris Fackler-Lowery, Thomas Gail, Jinx Griswold, Jolene Johnson, Jill Kelly, Nessryne Lamarti, Barrett Lamont, Judy Larsen, Moriah Lee, Tien-Chu Loh, Leslee Lukosh, Maggie MacLean, Krya Mairead-Gorski, Tim Moore, Janet Pahl, Huon Quach, Diana Rogero, Genevieve Scholl, J. Scott Stephenson, Ms Michael Stewart, Nic Vic, Yazmin Villegas, Seddon Wylde, Sue Krigsberg (lobby gallery), Rick Wheeler and Chas Martin (nook gallery).
