Joseph J. Grant, 73, of Biglerville, Pa., died peacefully Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at his home. Born July 17, 1938, in Rutherford County, N.C., he was the son of the late Jesse James and Velma Roper Grant.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vivian Cookston Grant,; daughters Deanna Smith, Laura Mullen and Julia McClatchy and sons Philip Grant and Steven Grant, all of Pennsylvania; sisters Evelyn Taylor and Linda Hogue and brothers Jesse M. Grant, Raleigh Grant, Lance Grant, Marvin Grant and Vance Grant, all of North Carolina; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters Joan Barbara and Imogene Grant, of North Carolina, and brother David D. Grant, of Hood River, Ore.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, Md. Interment will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday.
