Former Hood River, Ore., resident Sterling Lee Kadlec was born in Suring, Wis., on May 11, 1927, to Edward and Goldie (Graham) Kadlec. He passed away at his home in The Dalles, Ore., on Feb. 7, 2012, at the age of 84.

Sterling married Betty Level Slack on May 9, 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children and their spouses: Heidi and Travis Pyatt, Lisa and Wes Zook and Greg and Joy Kadlec; and stepchildren Tom Slack, Janet and David Hinkley and Sue and Lynn Spellman.

At Sterling's request, there will be no formal services; just a celebration of life at a later date for family and friends. Gardner Funeral Home (1270 N. Main, White Salmon, Wash.; 509-493-1323) handled cremation arrangements.
