Velda Pearl Deos

Velda Pearl Deos, 90, a Hood River, Ore., resident, died Aug. 18, 2009, at Parkhurst House. Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. until noon at Anderson’s Tribute Center with a reception beginning at 11 a.m.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the Hood River Valley Christian Church followed by a reception. Casual attire, please.
Private interment will be at Idlewilde Cemetery.
Velda was born March 26, 1919, in Pilot Rock, Ore., to Adron and Pearl (Sumner) Butterfield and nicknamed “Polly” by her brothers. They moved to Mt. Hood, Ore., in 1923. Velda graduated from Parkdale High School in 1936 and Portland Beauty Academy in 1940.
On June 14, 1941, she and Clyde Easterly were married at the “Little Brown Church” in Parkdale, Ore. Two children, Claudia and Frank, were born in Hood River, Ore. Clyde passed away in 1961.
In 1964 she opened Velda’s Cut & Curl and was the owner/operator until her retirement. In 1966 she married Jack Deos.
Velda was a lifelong founding member of the Hood River Valley Christian Church. She loved books, games, movies, picnics and any party in the vicinity.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Clyde Easterly and Jack Deos; seven brothers, six sisters-in-law and two close cousins.
She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Perkins, and son-in-law, Bill, of Hood River; son, Frank Easterly, and daughter-in-law, Judy, of Kennewick, Wash.; sister, Vera Wilde, of Junction City, Ore.; granddaughters Megan Perkins-Roush, of Cascade Locks, Ore., Dena Rae Carlock and her husband, Doug, of White Salmon, Wash., Erica Sutehall and her husband, Scott, of Renton, Wash., Heather Easterly, of Kent, Wash., and Dana Easterly, of Pullman, Wash.
She is also survived by great-granddaughters Stevani Ballweber and DesiRae “Lulu” Roush, of Cascade Locks, Ore.; great-grandsons Thomas and Andrew Carlock, of White Salmon, Wash.; great-great-grandson, Anthony Schu, of Cascade Locks; and sister-in-law Margaret Butterfield, of Brookings, Ore.
Many nieces and nephews as well as exchange student/daughter Renate Berk, of Berlin, Germany, also survive.
