Kenneth Roy Eversole U.S. Veteran

April 25, 1924 - June 30, 2009

Kenneth Roy Eversole, 85, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home in Hood River, Ore. He was born April 25, 1924, in Bremen, Ind., to Raymond and Pearl (Stuntz) Eversole.
He attended Central High School in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Kenneth was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. During World War II, he served as a seaman in the merchant marines.
Kenneth married Virginia Rorick in August 1948. He attended Purdue University, and upon his graduation he moved his family out west to Oregon.
He initially worked for Weyerhauser in Klamath Falls, Ore. Soon he was able to begin a career with the U.S. Forest Service that lasted 30 years. The growing Eversole family lived on many ranger stations in Oregon and Washington.
Kenneth enjoyed everything outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren on long hikes and teaching them about our forests and streams. He also liked to go camping and horseback riding.
Kenneth donated many long hours of his time to ensure that there are open and safe trails for people to enjoy for all outdoor activities. He liked to both downhill and cross country ski but he especially enjoyed going roller skating, ice skating and square dancing with Virginia.
Kenneth was a founding member of the Oregon Equestrian Trails and a lifetime member of the Hood River Saddle Club. Horses were his passion. He was a member of the Linn County Sherriff’s Mounted Posse and Search and Rescue.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Virginia; five children: Linda Eversole, of Neskowin, Jack Eversole, of Albany, Anne Ferguson, of Aumsville, Jean Lorenz, of Salem, and James Eversole, of Oxnard, Calif.; and a sister, Barbara Muncy, of Bloomington, Ind. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Anderson’s Tribute Center in Hood River. A military Honor Guard will honor his service to his country. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hood River Saddle Club, following the memorial service.
