Betty Josephine Thompson

November 30, 1933 - July 23, 2009

Betty Josephine Thompson, a longtime resident of Hood River, Ore., died on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Ore., at the age of 75. Betty was born on Nov. 30, 1933, to John and Mildred M. (Baker) Thompson in the Pine Ridge area of Moorcroft, Wyo.
Betty was brought up in a ranching and farming family until a move in 1947 took the family to northern Idaho, where she later graduated high school in Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho. In 1963 Betty and her mother, Mildred, moved to Hood River.
Betty went to nursing school in Portland, Ore., and received her LPN certification. She spent her working career employed at the Hood River Care Center for 33 years where she was dedicated to giving quality care to her patients.
She retired in 2002 and moved to Carson, Wash., where she remained until her death. She had tremendous artistic talent, an absolute affinity for music, and an uncanny knack for story-telling. She penned many of her childhood recollections and life experiences into poems which she loved to share.
Betty is survived by her brothers, William R. (Bob) Thompson, of Dallesport, Wash., and John W. Thompson, of White Salmon, Wash.; sister-in-law, Darlene Thompson, of Underwood, Wash.; three nieces, two nephews and numerous grand-nieces and nephews, as well as her many, many friends.
Her unique humor, stories and friendship will be terribly missed.
