Cathy Jean Mathis-Thompson, 53, a lifelong Hood River, Ore., resident, died with her family by her side Sept. 26, 2009, at Providence Medical Center in Portland, Ore., following a lengthy illness.
Cathy was born Feb. 16, 1956, in Hood River, Ore., to Pete and Nadine Mathis. Along with her three siblings, Alvin and Alan Mathis and Kay Stratton, she was raised and educated in Hood River Valley Schools.
She went to work for Diamond Fruit, where she met her now ex-husband and lifelong friend, Bruce Justin. Together they had two children, Stephen and Stephanie Justin. They also had many foster children, including Jeanie DeHart, Laura Brown and Mike Posey and grandchildren Kaitlyn, Bruce and Brady Posey.
She is survived by her children, Stephen and Stephanie Justin; brother Alvin Mathis and sister, Kay Stratton; and many nieces and nephews.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Alan Mathis and husband, Robert Thompson.
