Jill Nella Louise Wittenberg was born in Canyonville, Ore., on Sept. 3, 1965. Jill died in Bingen, Wash., on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, a week before her 44th birthday. She was the daughter of Kenneth and JoAnn (Kendrick) Wittenberg, of Cascade Locks, Ore.
Jill grew up in Cascade Locks and attended all 12 years of school there. She attended Mt. Hood Community College.
Jill worked a variety of jobs throughout her life and was creative in her music (guitar), beading, making jewelry and most recently, drying and pressing various flowers and plants.
Throughout her school years, she played every sport and was a “pure shooter” in basketball. Following high school, she pitched on the women’s softball team representing Cascade Locks.
She loved to read and was a “regular” at the library.
A celebration of Jill’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. at the Bethel Congregational Church, 480 E. Jewett Blvd., White Salmon, Wash. Light refreshments will follow the service.

Jill is survived by her parents, Ken and JoAnn; three sisters and one brother: Jody Ann (Lou) Caracciolo and their two children, Hannah and Nick; Judith (Armando) Wittenberg-Laguardia and their two children, Reina and Daniel; Jennifer (Michael) Wittenberg-Witsoe; and Jim (Carrie) and their three children, Jami, Josiah, and Joshua.
Jill also had many special friends in the Gorge area.
