Vivian Sidney Marcy Cummings was born July 17, 1914, in Mount Vernon, Wash. She died Sept. 19, 2009.
Vivian lived in Nebraska, then moved to Idaho, where she met her husband of 55 years, Barney. Together they worked in many states, including Arizona, California and Montana.
Vivian traveled to these states often with Barney. After he died in 1988, she was able to continue traveling to such places as Hawaii, Alaska and a cruise through the Panama Canal.
Vivian resided in Hood River for 34 years. During her stay here she was very active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, including the Altar Society, the Country Store and mending or sewing whatever was needed. She also participated in Loaves and Fishes and sewed Christmas stockings for many, many years which were given away.
She enjoyed her work with the church, family, sewing everything from altar cloths to square-dance dresses, fishing, reading and traveling. She enjoyed beating family and friends at cribbage. At the age of 88 she learned how to use a computer and send e-mails.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1501 Belmont Ave., Hood River. Rosary was held Thursday, Sept. 24, at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Vault interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, A.G. “Barney” Cummings, and her granddaughter, Sandra.
She is survived by her children: Eugene (Oma), of Roseburg, Ore., Joan Farley (Lloyd), of Phoenix, Ariz., and Paul (Renee), of Hood River, along with nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and her cat, Sylvester.
