Willa Mae Lorine Hermann Brooks, 89, passed away Dec. 2, 2010, at Ashley Manor of Hood River. She was born Sept. 22, 1921.
Willa Mae was born to Adolph and Clara (Fritz) Hermann in Staplehurst, Neb., one of five siblings: Harold, Milton, Roland and Rolene. She grew up in Nebraska, attended schools in Marysville and then moved to North Hollywood in 1943 and worked in the defense industry during World War II.
On Jan. 15, 1968, she married John M. Brooks at Tahoe City, Calif. They lived in La Quinta, Calif. She worked as a waitress while John was a chef at area restaurants and owned a little coffee shop of their own.
John passed away May 5, 1993.
Willa Mae moved to Hood River, Ore., in June of 1998 to be near her sister. In May 2008 she moved to Ashley Manor.
Willa Mae is survived by her sister, Rolene Henningsgard (and her husband, Larry), of Hood River, Ore.; brother, Roland Hermann (and his wife, Shirley) of Lakewood, Colo.; nephews Rick Titus and Michael Hermann (and his wife, Mary); nieces Sherry Love (and her husband, Jim) and Christi Berry (and her husband, Blane); great-niece, Shirlene Love; great-nephew, Jordan Berry; and other distant family and friends.
Memorial services are planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 305 Ninth St., Hood River. Graveside rites will follow at Idlewilde Mausoleum. Pastor Jeff Mueller will officiate.
Donations may be made in Willa Mae’s name to either Immanuel Lutheran Church or Heart of Hospice and sent care of Anderson’s.
