Dessie L. Bilyeu, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Hatch, N.M., to James Curtis and Ivy Marie (Reynolds) McDonald. She grew up in Reedley, Calif., and moved to Cascade Locks, Ore., in 1948.
She married Gary “Sam” Bilyeu on March 23, 1963, in Stevenson, Wash. They lived in Elgin, Ore., for two years, Cascade Locks for 38 years and moved to The Dalles in 2000.
She was a lady of many talents; she was an accomplished artist and loved to oil paint, she was a Master Gardener who liked to experiment with new plants, was an awesome cook and loved to dance.
She was a member of the Eagles, a longtime member of the Lions Club in Cascade Locks, the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation and the Mid-Columbia Car Club in The Dalles. Dessie and Sam traveled to many car shows throughout the Northwest.
She is survived by her husband, Sam Bilyeu, The Dalles; four sons: Michael and Barbara Irving, Cascade Locks; Patrick Irving, Cascade Locks; Richard and Tamara Irving, The Dalles; and Victor and Pam Bilyeu, Gresham, Ore.; and one daughter, Twyla and Don Clark, Cascade Locks.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren: James Irving, Casey Irving, Tyson Irving, Tonya Smith, Levi and Lacey Brazille and Sam and Jake Bilyeu; three great-grandchildren: Kaiya Smith, Lexi and Tyler Irving; and brother Royce and Connie McDonald, Halfway, Ore.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara.
A Celebration of Life will be at Anderson’s Tribute Center on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m.
