LaVerne Lincoln Stubbs, 95, passed away June 19, 2010, at his home in Cascade Locks, Ore. LaVerne was born Feb. 12, 1915.
LaVerne was born one of 13 children and was raised in Little Rock, Wash., the son of J.M. and Carie Millett. He worked for the Port of Cascade Locks from the early 1970s until his retirement in 1993.
In August of 1956, he married Marjorie Lydia Bowers in Stevenson, Wash., and to this union were blessed seven children.
LaVerne was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, often taking three- to four-week trips to Canada to hunt moose, deer and elk.
LaVerne is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Marjorie at their Cascade Locks home; seven children: Joe (and Rhonda) Stubbs, of Baker City, Ore., Wanda (and John) Brunecz, of Fairview, Ore., Marion Stubbs, of Drain, Ore., Glenda (and Jesse) Groves, of Cascade Locks, Barbara (and Irwin) Oelhafen, of Beaverton, Ore., Donna (and Pete) Hallan, of Portland, Ore., and Catherine Steffen, of Portland, Ore.; and 80-plus grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A service to honor LaVerne is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at the Port of Cascade Locks Pavilion with a potluck reception to immediately follow.
