Alvie “Joe” Cunningham

January 23, 1940 - July 1, 2010

Alvie “Joe” Cunningham, 70, of Hood River, Ore., fell asleep in the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ July 1, 2010, with family by his side. He was born Jan. 23, 1940.
A loving and devoted father, Alvie enjoyed attending his son’s (Kelly) football and basketball games. Alvie, also nicknamed “Musty,” was a carpenter for over 40 years, and as such, enjoyed working with his hands whenever possible. His beloved son, Kelly, has chosen to honor his father by pursuing the same vocation of carpentry.
Alvie was proud of the fact that he lived a simple and uncomplicated life; one filled with little worries.
Although Alvie’s life may have been simple, his family remembers him for his generous spirit and big heart — a big heart that possessed love and gratitude for not only those he would meet, but most especially for his beloved family members.
Alvie grew up in Hood River and attended Wy’east High School. While at Wy’east, Alvie was heavily involved in football and other extracurricular sporting events.
Alvie is survived by his loving daughter, Cathy Cunningham, son, Kelly Cunningham, and grandchildren Shelby Kitka, Jordan Kitka, Jayce Cunningham and Kristen Cunningham.
The family has chosen to respect Alvie’s wishes by privately celebrating his life in the comfort of close family and friends at their residence. An all-day visitation has been arranged for Alvie on Tuesday, July 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center on 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031.
Please visit to leave a note of condolence for family.
