Ronald “Ron” John Herman, 57, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., passed away at his home on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010.
He was born in The Dalles on Jan. 13, 1953, to Hugh and Ollie Herman. He graduated from Wahtonka High School in 1971 and completed his associate degree in forestry from Mt. Hood Community College in 1974.
Ron married Charla Fraley in The Dalles in 1974. They had two daughters, Jackie and Carrie. In 2005 he married Josi Travinski in Cascade Locks, Ore. He was employed as a weigh master for the State of Oregon and worked at the Port of Entry in Cascade Locks.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, and his hobbies included hunting, fishing and wood cutting with his family.
Ron is survived by his wife, Josi Herman; two daughters, Jackie Tharp and her husband, Leroy, and Carrie Herman and her significant other Tim Cummings, all of The Dalles; his mother, Ollie Herman, of Mosier; one brother, Alan Herman, and his wife, Sheryl, of Hood River; two granddaughters, Madison Troutt and Abigail Cummings, both of The Dalles.
A niece, Tiffany Peterson, and her husband, Jason; nephews Harry Herman, Nicholas Herman and his wife, Caty, and Adam Herman; and numerous great-nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Herman.
Viewing was held Thursday, Nov. 4, at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 5, at Spencer, Libby and Powell Chapel with Father Ron Maag officiating. Committal followed at Mosier Cemetery with a reception afterward at the Mosier Grange.
