Beverly Simpson Raley Gantz passed away peacefully in Underwood, Wash., on Nov. 2, 2010, of cancer.
She was born in Walla Walla, Wash., July 24, 1916, to George and Ila Berry Simpson. She spent most of her life in Pendleton, Ore. She was a member of PHS class 1934.
Bev attended Mills College for two years and then continued at the University of Oregon. She was a Pendleton Round-Up Princess on the 1936 court.
In 1937 Bev married James H. Raley, who died in 1967. They had three daughters, Beverly Tiah Raley Lawrence of The Dalles, Ore., now deceased; Sally Raley Brady (Jack), of Underwood, Wash., and Mary Raley Shilton (Dave), of Alexandria, Va.
Beverly is also survived by her brother, Robert Simpson (Sharon), of Lake Oswego, Ore. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a nephew and several nieces.
In 1981 she married Capt. Saxe P. Gantz, USN retired and deceased in 1993. They built a home in Enterprise, Ore., and resided there until his death.
The family wishes to thank all the kind and helpful caregivers of the past few years. These include Mt. View Residence in White Salmon and Brookside Manor in Hood River. They also are grateful to the staff and doctors of Skyline Hospital and Mid-Columbia Family Health Center.
We also thank the Visiting Home Health nursing services for their assistance. Many thanks to her special friend and care-giver, Judy Turner, for her genuine kindness, help and love of Beverly.
Hospice of the Gorge gave outstanding support, advice and service. We thank them so much and ask that any remembrances be sent to them.
