Ida Mae Madsen went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010. She was born in Yakima, Wash., on Nov. 3, 1920, to Ernest and Wanda Petzel. She attended schools in Yakima and graduated from Yakima High School.
Ida Mae met her husband, Norman Madsen, in Yakima and they were married upon his return from World War II on April 15, 1945. They made their first home in Santa Rosa, Calif., until Norm’s discharge from the Army Air Corps. They then returned to the Yakima area where their sons, Robert and Bruce, were born.
In 1950 the family moved to the Caldwell, Idaho, area. They relocated to Parkdale, Ore., in 1953 and then to Hood River in 1959.
Ida Mae was primarily a homemaker but worked in the fruit industry for Diamond Fruit for more than 30 years. Norm was employed as a carpenter/cabinet maker in the Valley. They were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1953.
Ida Mae loved to knit, sew and bake. She was affectionately known as the “Cookie Grandma.”
Ida Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Norm; her parents and her sister, Alice Beckman.
She is survived by her sons, Bob (and Sue) of Hood River, Ore., and Bruce (and DeeDee) of Silverdale, Wash.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Ida Mae was blessed with celebrating her 90th birthday in November. During the last year of her life, Ida Mae resided at Ashley Manor in Hood River and received wonderful compassionate care.
A graveside interment was scheduled for Friday morning, Nov. 26, with 12:30 p.m. memorial service followed by a reception at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 305 Ninth St., Hood River.
The family suggests that donations may be made in Ida Mae’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
