Ruth Nakamura was born in Poncha Springs, Colo., on Oct. 10, 1930, to Cheito Fujii and Miysyo Ishikaira Fujii. She passed away peacefully at Ashley Manor in Hood River, Ore. on Oct. 5, 2010.
Ruth grew up in Grand Junction, Colo. In 1947 she and her family moved to Ontario, Ore. She graduated from Ontario High School in 1951.
Ruth moved with her family to Morgan Hill, Calif., later that same year. She met George Nakamura in the fall of 1954. They married in 1955 and moved to Hood River, Ore.
Ruth enjoyed many things: bowling, painting, music, antiquing, soap operas, watching sports and most of all, being involved with church.
She is survived by her sisters, Nellie Yokoyama, Betty Chikuo and Grace Queor; sons Michael, Grant and Daniel and his wife, Deanna; and grandsons Brandon, Samuel and Ryan.
A service to honor Ruth is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals, Receptions, Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031; 541-386-1000. Family friend and Pastor Andy Wade will officiate. A reception will follow.
Donations can be made in Ruth’s name to Heart of Hospice and sent care of Anderson’s.
