Letha Mae Sharp Martin passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2010, at the Hood River Care Center. She was born July 21, 1916 in Olcott, W.V., and moved to Hood River in 1961 with her husband, Orlan, and sons Carl, Dennie and David.
Letha was a member of the Hood River Church of Christ and worked for Duckwall Fruits Packing Company. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden, she loved to laugh and she never met a stranger. She worked hard all of her life and the happiness of her seven children was always her most important goal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 14 siblings, husband, daughter Carol Sue Elkins and sons Orlan Wesley Martin Jr. and Dennie Dell Martin.
Letha is survived by sons Carl Henry (Wanda) Martin and David Arnold (Anne Marie Levens) Martin; daughters Janet Lou (Donald) Light and Nancy Lee (James) Belcher; daughter-in-law Verna Martin and son-in-law Frank Elkins.
Surviving grandchildren are James Elkins, Angela Elkins, Nicole Elkins, Kimberly Light Wamack, Cory Light, Donna Belcher Keeney, Charlotte Belcher, Patricia Martin, Carl Lester Martin, Tammy Martin, Jason Martin, Deanna Martin and Derek Martin; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031; 541-386-1000. Graveside rites will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Family friend Pastor Terry Abbott will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to be made in Letha’s name to The Next Door Inc. and sent care of Anderson’s.
