Irene Joan Kirschbaum, of The Dalles, Ore., died of Alzheimer's disease March 20, 2011, in The Dalles. She was born Feb 26, 1931, in St. Paul, Minn., to Russell Lewis and Irene Rose (La Londe) Ellingsen.
She worked as a secretary for 12 years for the Centrotex and Commercial Solvents Companies of New York City and the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, in Bethpage, N.Y. She married Nathan Kirschbaum on April 5, 1962, in Roslyn, N.Y.; he preceded her in death on May 5, 2006. She was a homemaker after marriage.
Her interests and hobbies included tennis, bowling, swimming, needlepoint, sailing small sailboats, gardening and bird watching.
She is survived by her sister, Katherine Caperna, and brother-in-law, Aldo, of Merrick, N.Y.; son Daniel J. Kirschbaum and daughter-in-law, Patricia, and their two children, Jacob Joseph and Sarah Rose, of Silverdale, Wash.; and son Andrew R. Kirschbaum, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Bell, and son David and daughter Kim Anh of Hood River, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
