Verle May Redhead, 86, passed away April 10, 2011, at Providence Brookside Manor in Hood River, Ore.
Services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Pine Grove Methodist Church, 2415 Eastside Road, Hood River, with a reception to follow. Graveside rites will follow the reception at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery. Pastor Christy Matson will officiate.
Verle was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Oregon City, Ore., to Lacey and Mabel (Denui) Day. She and her two older brothers, Clinton and Donald, kept their mother and father busy with all of their childhood antics. She graduated from West Linn High School in 1942 where she met her future husband, Henry "Hank" Redhead.
On Aug. 18, 1945, she married Hank and started a family. They had a daughter, Becky, and son, David. The family lived in the Oregon City area until 1965 when they moved to Hood River.
In the late 1960s they built their dream home in the Pine Grove area. Hank and Verle enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and RV'ing with their many friends and family. Verle was also an accomplished seamstress and sewed many beautiful things for her family. She also enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor.
Hank passed away in 2002 after 57 years of marriage. Her daughter, Becky, and son, David, also preceded her in death. Verle is survived and will be dearly missed by her son-in-law, Jerry Petricko, of Odell, Ore., and granddaughter Melissa "Missy" Halter and her husband, Todd, of Kennewick, Wash., and their son, Christopher.
