On April 11, 2011, Judy Mae Blouin passed away at her home with family at her side. She was born Sept. 23, 1949, in Hood River to Charles (Doyle) and Viola McNeill.
She grew up in Hood River and graduated in 1967 from Wy'east High School. After graduating, she moved to Astoria for a year of college before returning to Hood River.
In 1968 she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and volunteered her time in spreading the good news of God's Kingdom taught in the Bible.
In 1969 she met and married Joseph Omar Blouin and they had three boys: Greg, born in 1971, Garren, born in 1976, and JJ, born in 1986. They built a home and settled their family in Odell, Ore.
After working as a fruit packer for Diamond Fruit Company for 30 years, she retired. She then decided to work with children at Pine Grove Elementary School and especially enjoyed working the after-school program Prime Time. She enjoyed traveling and was able to take several cruises with Joe and other family members. She also did a lot of camping with family and friends.
Her greatest venture was with her brother Dennis when they took a trip to China to visit her two sons and daughter-in-law. She drank tea, visited a jade factory and scaled the Great Wall of China before returning home.
While home, you could always see her working in her yard during beautiful spring and summer days. Her greatest love was the rose garden she built. She spent much time pruning and enjoying the lovely aroma of each plant. She also enjoyed family night, which was usually spent at "Grama's" house playing cards, eating and laughing.
In 2008, she welcomed her first grandchild, Camille Rene Blouin, who brought her much joy and happiness. She was looking forward to another granddaughter due in July this year.
Above all, Judy was truly dedicated to her family, making sure everyone's needs were met. She was a fighter for what she believed in and had a kind, loving, compassionate spirit that will be missed greatly. We look forward to the time when we will see her again.
The family would like to thank Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, Hospice of the Gorge and especially Lucy Shafer, who has been a wonderful, supportive friend to Judy, especially over the last year. We would also like to show our appreciation to our spiritual family for supporting Joe and Judy for that past couple months. Your kindness and love will not be forgotten.
She is survived by her husband, Joe, of Hood River; mother, Viola McNeill, of Hood River; her three sons: Greg and daughter-in-law Teresa, of Hood River, Garren and daughter-in-law YaYa, of Shenzhen, China, and JJ, also of Shenzhen, China; granddaughter Camille Blouin, of China; sister Mary Ann and brother-in-law Pat Blouin, of Hood River; and brother Dennis and sister-in-law Tina McNeill, of Carson, Wash. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Providence Hood River or Hospice of the Gorge.
A memorial service was held April 18 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
