Mayme Luella Vanlue, 90, passed away April 15, 2011, in Hood River, Ore. Mayme was born Jan. 21, 1921, at St. Maries, Idaho, to George and Alta Belle (Riggs) Clinton.
Services are planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, April 28, Anderson's Tribute Center. Graveside rites will follow at Idlewilde Cemetery. A reception will follow at the West Side Fire Hall in Rockford.
Mayme, or as she was more affectionately known, "Lue," moved with her family to Forest Grove, Ore., where she graduated from high school. In her youth she enjoyed being with her family and friends and reading.
On Dec. 8, 1945, she married Clarence T. Vanlue in Vancouver, Wash., and to this union were blessed three children: George, Bonnie and Patricia. They moved to Hood River, Ore., where she lived the last 66 years.
We used to go on picnics and camping and visited family and playing cards and games. Lue enjoyed going to family reunions and any other family gatherings that were going on.
She worked for Cascade and Diamond Fruit packing house and she worked for Dan Pierson, peeling and slicing apples; she also worked for Jantzen, sewing, and worked for the Hood River News as a paper stuffer.
Lue loved gardening, growing flowers and bowling. She would also knit and has made many sweaters and jackets; she taught knitting for 4-H and belonged to the women ACC of the VFW.
Clarence passed away in 1977.
Mayme is survived and will be dearly missed by three children: George Clinton and his wife, Marj, of Kelso, Wash., Bonnie Vanlue, of Hood River, and Patricia Thomas and her husband, Steve, of Hood River; brothers and sisters-in-law Ben and Corlee Clinton, of Hillsboro, Ore., Allen and Becky Fields, of North Bend, Ore.; brother-in-law Tom Butler, of Helvetia, Ore.; sister-in-law Anita Clinton, of Hillsboro, Ore.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Darlene and Ray Swan, of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren Debra, James Clinton, Jana Moore, Jerome and his wife Sarah Kahler, of Hood River, Tina and husband David Jeter, of Mill-A, Wash., Andrea and her husband Jeff Vincent, of Underwood, Wash.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren Brian Clinton, Jessica, Elizabeth Duncan, Dominic, Dakoda, Elexa Clinton, Joseph, Abigail Kahler Tori, Nica Pinson, Danielle, Dara Jeter Andrew, Emmitt, Indiana and Vincent.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lorena Butler and Carrie Clinton, and brothers Milton, Leonard, Glen and Frank Clinton.
