Evelyn Marie Kujala
August 25, 1942 - December 23, 2011
Evelyn Marie Kujala was born on Aug. 25, 1942, in Trimountain, Mich., the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Kujala. She left this earth on Dec. 23, 2011, to be with her Heavenly Father.
Ev, or Evie as she was also known, grew up in Michigan and in Astoria, Ore., but had settled, in recent years, in Hood River, Ore. She was the youngest child in a family of eight children.
She graduated from Knappa High School and over the years did an outstanding job of keeping up with many of her school friends. Ev worked most of her life as a CNA in hospitals in Astoria, Portland and Hood River. She was known for the warmth of her care and her wonderful sense of humor, not only to her patients, but also to her co-workers, friends and family.
She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews, kept up with the details of their lives and remembered to send birthday cards to all. She is known among her friends, wherever she lived, for terrific parties and other get-togethers.
She loved movies, lunching with friends and family, Elvis, and cats. She was especially fond of the church she attended, becoming close to the pastors and their families. Vicki Kaneshigi, her husband Kyoshi, and Vicki's family were special friends with whom Ev shared many of life's experiences.
Throughout her life she maintained a deep and abiding faith in the Lord and it was this faith that sustained her to the end.
Her father and mother, Andrew and Elizabeth Kujala, her brother, Gordon Kujala, and brothers-in-law Ray Miller and Eldie Olson precede her in death.
She is survived by siblings Norman (Marge) Kujala, Dorothy (Roy) Myers, Peggy (Eldie) Olson, Bernice (Chuck) Hobbs, Donald (Pearl) Kujala and Esther (Ray) Miller. She is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
