Everett Lester Powers "Uncle" passed away Feb. 4, 2011, at the Hood River Care Center with family by his side. Uncle was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Prescott, Kansas, to Jim and Theora Lucile Powers. He was the youngest of three children.
Uncle worked for Bell Telephone for many years and retired from there in 1986. His work took him from California to New York and even a top secret job or two.
When Uncle retired he started his second "career" as a farmer, raising cows and pigs. He loved his animals. Each one of them had a name if he kept them. He loved his animals very much and took great care of them. For a couple of years he raised pigs for the 4 -H kids.
We had a lot of good times with Uncle - "It's not butter, Uncle!"
Uncle enjoyed photography in his earlier years. He loved working with locks and mechanical things and anything to do with mathematics. He loved his sweets and was tickled every time one of his nieces made him something special. Throughout his lifetime Uncle enjoyed investing in the stock market and precious metals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Russell Powers and sister Frances Arbuckle.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Harriet Powers; nieces Audrey (Tom), Karen (John), Danette (David), Ardis and Cynthia (John); and nephews Leon, Dale, David and Virgil (Lynn). He also had 12 great-nieces and -nephews and 16 great-great-nieces and -nephews.
There will be no viewing or services at the request of Uncle. Any donations may be made to Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
