Roy Moran Huot was born May 17, 1920, in Chamberlain Flats, Wash., to Oma (Gerling) and Lincoln Huot. He died Jan. 7, 2011, in Hood River, Ore.
Roy graduated from Goldendale High School in Washington and entered the Navy in 1941 where he served as chief gunner and navigator until 1945. He remained in the reserves until 1952.
He married Althea E. Prinzing in 1946 and had two children, Randall and Karen. Althea and Karen preceded Roy in death, along with six sisters and one brother.
In 1977, Roy married Erma Schuh Huffsmith.
Roy is survived by his wife, Erma Huot, of Hood River; his son, Randall Huot, of Phoenix, Ariz.; his stepson, Marvin Huffsmith, of White Salmon; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two sisters, Gladys Powell and Vada Harvey, of Hood River.
Roy was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad after his military service and he worked for them until retirement. He was a loyal member of the Hood River Assembly of God and served in many capacities.
He loved his garden and spent many hours tending to it and sharing the fruits of his labor with neighbors and friends. Memorial Day was special to him and he made sure the graves of family members were decorated in three different towns.
He was passionate about his faith in God and his country.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals, Receptions, Cremations) 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031; 541-386-1000. Private graveside services will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Pastor Terry Abbott will officiate with military rites performed by the Oregon Honors Team.
Memorials can be given to the River of Life Assembly of God in care of Anderson’s.
