Margaret Leona Williams was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Burnsville, N.C., to Samuel and Ella Mae Piercy, and lived in Paint Gap, N.C., until she was 4 years old. She then moved to Jasper, Tenn., and grew up on her father's dairy farm.
While a student at Lees-McRae Presbyterian College in Banner Elk, N.C., she met her future husband, Cecil Howard Williams. In 1943, Cecil and Margaret moved to Oregon, where they raised their three children.
In 2001, Margaret moved to Hood River to be near her daughter, Suzanne.
Margaret was an active woman who enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, tennis and golf, and was an avid square dancer.
Margaret passed away in Hood River, Ore., on June 21, 2011, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by 11 of her siblings, her husband, Cecil, and her daughter, Betty Jo.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Estanich, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; her daughter, Suzanne Johnson, and son-in-law, David, of Hood River; her son, Robert Williams, of Wrightwood, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Family services will be held Aug. 6 at Valley Memorial Park of Beaverton, Ore.
