Ray Ellis Millard, a Hood River resident, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 23, 2011. He was born in Medford, Ore., July 19, 1960, to Ray and Jackie (Foster) Millard.
Ray married Angela (McCarthy) Millard in November 1981; they had three wonderful daughters: Cheriece, Becky and Rachel. Angela and Ray divorced in 2002.
He was an employee for Maritime Services for 20 years and got to travel all around, while working on ships. While employed he met Sheila Lape.
Ray loved hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. His love for Sheila and his family sustained him through many courageous battles with cancer. He gave his all for one more day with his family, on his sickest days when his grandkids would come to visit he lit right up.
Ray is survived by Sheila Lape at their home in Hood River, Ore.; daughters Cheriece Millard, Becky and her husband, Jarrod Goss, and Rachel Millard; two grandchildren, Sienna Millard and Kayden Goss, all of Hood River, Ore.; sisters Julie Schuld and her husband, Jody, of Weston, Ore., and Jeri Whitecotton and her husband, Tim, of Odell, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Anderson's Tribute Center.
Memorials can be made in Ray's name to either Hospice of the Gorge or the Big Brother Big Sister program in care of Anderson's.
