Sharon Kay Duggan passed away at her Parkdale, Ore., home surrounded by family on July 29, 2012. She was born Nov. 26, 1953, to Richard and Beverly (Leslie) McDonald in St. Joseph, Mo.
Sharon moved with her family to the Hood River Valley and is a graduate of the Hood River Valley High School class of 1971. She enjoyed cheerleading during her school years.
Sharon married Douglas Duggan in Yakima, Wash., on May 26, 1972. They were blessed with two children: Brooke and Kurtis.
Sharon was an active homemaker and mother but she also touched many lives in many ways at all places she worked. She spent 14 year with Stadleman’s before working for Hood River Supply, the office of Dr. Bickler, and Cascade Eye Center.
Most recently Sharon worked for the Hood River County School District helping children with special needs at Mid Valley and Wy’east schools. She particularly enjoyed working with the kids.
She loved the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Sharon enjoyed golf, tennis, softball, gardening, music and her bunco parties with family and friends.
Recently, Sharon went on an exciting whitewater rafting trip and celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with her husband. They traveled through Utah, including Zion National Park; Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and California.
Sharon was a loving grandmother and an active member of the Parkdale Community Church.
She will be dearly missed by all whom she has collected as friends over the years and is survived by her husband, Doug, at their home in Parkdale; daughter, Brooke (and Heath) Henderson, of Vancouver, Wash.; son, Kurtis (and Dominic) Duggan, of Portland, Ore.; grandson, Holden Henderson; granddaughter, Katelyn Henderson; mother, Beverly Mathews, of Hood River, Ore.; sister Carol (and Tom) Pfaff, of Independence, Ore.; sister Cindy Cooper, of Independence, Ore.; brother, Joseph McDonald, of Portland, Ore.; David (and Robin) McDonald, of The Dalles, Ore.; numerous nieces and nephews; and other distant family and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard McDonald, and step-father, Dennis Mathews.
A service to celebrate Sharon’s life and mourn her passing is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4th at the Parkdale Community Church (4910 Baseline Drive, Mount Hood/Parkdale, Oregon 97041).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Sharon’s name and sent care of Anderson’s Tribute Center; these memorials will be used for a number of charities dear to her.
