Mary A. Harris passed away July 30, 2012, at her Hood River, Ore., home surrounded by family. Below is a brief life story shared by her family:
Our adoring matriarch was born Mary Anne Miller on Aug. 22, 1935, in Grants Pass, Ore. As a youth, she loved tennis, was an avid reader and she served as the school’s newspaper and annual editor. On Dec. 4, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, C.E. “Bud” Harris, in Las Vegas, and began their lives together serving our country in the U.S. Marine Corps in Twenty Nine Palms, Calif.
God would lead them to the Great Northwest, where they would make their home across towns in Oregon and Washington. During these times, she worked as an office manager and business professional at Petrolane Gas Company before finding her true calling as a mother.
Mary raised three beautiful daughters — Cheri, Laurie, and Linda — all of whom emulate her unfailing love and passion for life. Whether it was sewing clothing for her girls or making banquets on a budget, she led with love and finished with compassion. In her daughters’ words, “She’s special.”
Mary is survived by her husband of almost 58 years, Bud; daughters Cheri Paasch, Laurie Crosswhite (husband Scott) and Linda Massingill (husband Doug); six grandchildren; and brother, Robert Miller — all of whom love her dearly. Her lesson in life is about family, and her legacy is unfailing love.
A time to honor Mary’s life and mourn her passing was held at the Pine Grove Butte Cemetery on July 31. Arrangements were under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals, Receptions, Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River OR 97031; 541-386-1000.
