Mark Alan Howell, 62, passed away at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore., on Jan. 28, 2012. Mark was born April 26, 1949, in The Dalles to Dale Washington and Helen Lucille (Bicker) Howell, but spent his life in Hood River. He attended Coe Primary, Mount Hood Elementary and May Street schools.
He has collected many friends over the years working 18 years at Walmart as a greeter. Prior to that he worked at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and at the Hilton in Portland. He enjoyed reading, listening to music and spending time with his family and friends.
Mark is survived and will be dearly missed by his siblings: Philip Howell and his wife, Ruby, of Hood River, Ore., Larry Howell and his wife, Jeannie, of Benton City, Wash., Jim Howell and his wife, Maria, of Rowena, Ore., Kathy Newell and her husband, Tom, of Tacoma, Wash., and Linda Townsend, of Hood River, Ore.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Dick Townsend.
Memorials are encouraged to be made in Mark's name to Hood River's River of Life Assembly of God Church.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Anderson's Tribute Center.
