Donald William Kitchens U.S. Veteran

Donald William Kitchens, 75, passed away Feb. 2, 2012, at his home in Cascade Locks, Ore., of natural causes. He was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Kansas City, Mo., to Harold A. Chroninger and Geneva Jo Sharpe Kitchens. He married LeeRae Bible at Cascade Locks on June 29, 1986.
He lived 30 years in Cascade Locks (1982-present); various states and countries with the U.S. Air Force (England, West Germany, Turkey, Thailand, Crete, Greece); Kansas, California, Texas and many others.
He had degrees in accounting and history from Culver, in Stockton, Mo., and an AA in accounting from the Community College of the Air Force.
Donald served our country proudly for 27 years in the Air Force and retired Jan. 1, 1982, as a SM Sgt; he was recognized as a Senior NCO Leader and mentor to and for many.
He served as city treasurer for Cascade Locks until his medical retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed cribbage, bowling, CNN, playing the harmonica, pool, Volksmarching, telling family stories, old movies, and Bonanza; he was a great swimmer and bowler and a tremendous animal lover.
Donald spoke German, loved World War II and other historical books/reading, and to watch "Tiger" golf. He also loved to dish out harassment in great fun with loved ones.
Donald is survived by his wife, LeeRae Kitchens, of Cascade Locks; sisters Francis Sherman, of Medford, Ore., and Toni Hanner, of Eugene Ore.; daughters Allison Jane Kitchens, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Julie Ann Kitchens Maier, of Fairbanks Alaska; son, John Alan Kitchens, of Hillsboro, Ore.; step-on, Brett Bible, of Vancouver, Wash.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Chroninger (biological father) and Geneva Jo Sharpe Kitchens, Donald W. Kitchens (adopted father) and Thelma Chroninger (stepmother).
Memorial contributions may be made to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
Services are planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Anderson's Tribute Center with military rites performed by McChord Air Force Honor Team. Graveside services will follow at the Cascade Locks Cemetery. Celebrant speaker Bob Huskey will officiate.
