Daniel Randolph Paasch Jr. U.S. Veteran

August 19, 1927 - May 28, 2012

Daniel Randolph Paasch Jr., 84, passed away May 28, 2012, at Carolyn’s Adult Care in The Dalles, Ore. He was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Knowles, Okla., where he grew up and attended school. He moved to Hood River, Ore., in 1943 and soon thereafter tried to enlist in every branch of the service, being turned away until he was drafted by the U.S. Air Force and served proudly during World War II.
After the war, Dan returned to Hood River and began his career as a heavy equipment operator, working for local paving companies (B & D Paving and Chrisman Paving) and later the Hood River County Road Department.
After retiring from Hood River County he went to work for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area before completely retiring at the age of 73.
On Aug. 12, 1951, he married Darlene Laney and to their union were blessed two children: Marsha and Randy. They were active members of the Hood River Church of the Nazarene and honorary members of the Hood River Saddle Club.
Dan was proud volunteer for West Side Fire Department for 25-plus years; he was also a member of the Hood River Lions Club. He loved square dancing, his Tennessee walking horse, “General,” and trail riding.
Dan is survived and will be dearly missed by his children, Marsha (and Leon) Paasch-Kidwell, of Salem, Ore., and Randy (and girlfriend, KaCee) Paasch, of Hood River; three grandsons: Gary, Bobby and Cody; great-grandson Aidy; and brother, Bill Paasch, of Hood River; nieces and nephews and friends that he collected along the way.
In addition to his parents Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, in 1998.
