Eva Theresa McClanahan, 78, of Hood River, Ore., passed away from natural causes on March 11, 2012, at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital. She was born April 6, 1933, in Long Beach, Calif., to Ernest and Geneva (Brown) Gill.
Eva grew up in Long Beach and has resided in Simi Valley and Auberry, Calif. She graduated from high school and worked a variety of jobs throughout her life including candy striper, secretary and for the Mattel Toy Factory.
She married Donald L. McClanahan at St. Cyprian's Church in Long Beach on Dec. 27, 1952.
She enjoyed camping, playing bingo, bowling and fishing. She also loved making ceramic dolls with her granddaughter. She faithfully attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a member of the Elks and Red Hat Society.
She is survived by daughters Debra L. Hunter, of Hood River, Geneva M. Johnson, of Auberry, Calif., and Shelly R. Huberty, of Greenwood, Calif.; sons Larry E. McClanahan, of Anaheim, Calif., and John M. McClanahan, of Hood River; sister JoAnn Hardwick, of Corona, Calif.; more than 20 grandchildren, more than 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; brothers Doyle Gill and Hugh Gill; and sister Cheryl Freeman.
A mass of Catholic burial will take place at noon on Saturday, March 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with interment at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be a reception to follow at 2 p.m. in the basement of St. Mary's.
