Gerald Herman was born in Antlers, Okla., Jan. 25, 1924, and passed on May 25, 2012, in The Dalles, Ore.
He volunteered for the Army Infantry, Feb. 8 1943, and was honorably discharged Nov. 13, 1945.
Gerald married Ruth Buce, and had two sons, Scott and Steve (Michelle) Herman, and was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He worked for Darigold in The Dalles for more than 29 years
After Gerald’s wife passed he remarried Lucille Sherrell, from Hood River, Ore., on Sept. 25, 1984. Lucille had three children: Darlene (Doug) Neufeldt, Rick (Lynn) Sherrell and Roger (Tanya) Sherrell, and was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Gerald’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, gambling, garage sales, buying, selling and trading, and he always loved to share stories of the past.
A memorial service for Gerald will be held Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at Providence Down Manor, 1950 Sterling Place, Hood River, in the banquette room (fourth floor).
