Patricia Lunden

Patricia “Pat” Ann Lunden

June 13, 1934 - September 7, 2011

Patricia Ann Lunden passed away a year ago, Sept. 7, 2011, at a Portland hospital with her family at her side. She was born June 13, 1934, to Fredrick A. and Leone M. (Nyquist) Robertson at Wildhorse Ranch near the Snake River in Idaho, and was raised in nearby Weiser, where her mother taught elementary school.

The youngest of three children, Pat grew up in sagebrush country and liked country/western and swing music, dances and riding several horses she had as a young woman. Family was important to her, and she cherished the relationships with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as friends.

She met her future husband while visiting her sister June in Ninilchik, Alaska. Pat married Jack Lunden in January of 1959 and the couple made their home in Alaska, where Jack was working as a power line surveyor. Their union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Kristen Marie, in 1959 and a son, Jack A., in 1962.

The family resided in several different areas and daily life was punctuated by the scenic beauty and wildness of “The Last Frontier.” Pat and her family relocated to the upper Hood River Valley in 1974.

Patricia was a loving, compassionate, loyal and generous woman. She possessed a love and reverence for all living things great and small, and enjoyed the company of several dogs and numerous cats throughout the years.

Pat was gregarious, had the “gift of gab,” and would often strike up a conversation with a stranger at the grocery store or post office. Her nicknames were “Mumsy” and “Frogwoman.”

She enjoyed gardening, travel, card games, baking, sewing, reading (especially Zane Grey), John Wayne westerns, keeping up with friends and family and a good cup of coffee. Pat was active in county elections and Parkdale Garden Club until health issues limited her activities.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her sister June and brother Roland, her husband Jack and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She and Jack were married for 43 years, and it was hard for her to lose her husband and so many people near and dear to her.

Pat is survived by her daughter Kristen and sister-in-law Rose Martin of Portland, son Jack of Parkdale and numerous nieces and nephews.

At her request, no formal service was held. For those who wish to make a donation in Pat’s memory, please consider any animal support organization of your choice.

Happy Trails, Mom and Dad! We love you and we miss you!
