On Oct. 6, a celebration of life service for Dewey Folkestad, age 78, will be held at Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minn. A gathering will take place at 10 a.m. and a service will be held at 11 with a luncheon to follow.
Dewey Lawrence Folkestad died Aug. 5, 2012. He was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Montevideo, Minn., to Minnie (Espelind) and Dewey Folkestad. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1952.
Dewey married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Haugen, on Sept. 13, 1953, in Seattle, Wash. He joined the Army and spent three years in active duty, serving with the Army Signal Corps. He graduated from South Dakota State College in Brookings, S.D., in 1958 with a degree in pharmacy.
Dewey volunteered at the Planes of Fame Museum at Flying Cloud Airport, and was a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society in Bloomington.
He is survived by his wife, Bev; children Julie Bieber (companion Ralph Schmitt), Kathy Boesch, Kristi Russo and John (Sheila); grandchildren Kelsey, Garrett and Kari Boesch, Amy Bieber and Maggie, Claire and Rachel Folkestad; siblings Stan Folkestad, Evie Ostlie (Clarence), Lorraine Widme and June Peterson (Claus); half-brother Mark Folkestad; sisters-in-law Nelly Folkestad and Pat Haugen; and sister- and brother-in-law Jean and Walter Appleseth.
He was preceded in death by brother Merald Folkestad, sister-in-law Jeanette Iverson and Doris Folkestad and brothers-in-law Robert Widme, Owen Haugen and Mayo Iverson.
